Development Geologist - London

The role of the Development Geologist is to oversee the process in planning and designing development wells. As an experienced member of the team, you will have some influence over more junior members and will be called upon for expert advice and opinion. Based in the London office, it will be necessary from time to time for you to travel to other locations, including project sites.

Other duties include;

  • Accessing basin and regional evaluation
  • Providing depositional models within regional sequences stratigraphic framework
  • Identification of prospects for exploration
  • Participation in well-planning processes to optimise locations using geological and geophysical data
  • Providing geological models (static and dynamic data) to assess uncertainty analysis and alternative outcomes
  • Understanding life of field reservoir driven HSE impacts
  • Integrating geological work with geophysical and reservoir engineering analysis to provide unified interpretations
  • Mentoring entry-level employees (mainly geologists, geophysicists), providing team support and expert advice
  • Work closely with the engineering function to ensure that effective well planning meets respective engineering and business needs

Further responsibilities include;

  • Providing tools for pattern reviewsroviding geological surveillance templates
  • Providing input to various projects, such as reserves, budgets and work plans
  • Recommending log and core acquisitions
  • Wellsite recommendation and planning
  • Recommending analysis programs
  • Planning and designing development wells
  • Providing general geological support to other team members
  • Writing prognosis for wells
  • Making recommendations to Wellsite geologists and other engineering teams
  • Keeping up-to-date models for new wells
  • Insuring consistency with other teams.
  • Preparing presentation materials
  • Presenting results to senior management
  • Assisting with reserves, work programs, budgeting
  • Other ad hoc responsibilities

To apply for this position, it is required that you have the following credentials;

 

  • B.Sc. or equivalent degree in Geology or Earth Sciences
  • M.Sc. in Petroleum Geology is preferred
  • At least 5 years oil industry experience, preferably with an operator
  • Affiliation to a professional body
    • GeolSoc
    • AAPG
    • PESGB
  • Broad experience and understanding of G&G, production engineering and petrophysics
  • Strong knowledge of
    • Fundamentals of petroleum geology;
    • Sedimentary processes
    • Structural geology and structural geological principles;
  • Mapping and predicting reservoir presence and quality;
  • Risk analysis, Uncertainty analysis

 

  • Experience in operational and offshore is preferable with a strong understanding of offshore environments
  • Ambitious, proactive approach to work
  • Able to advise a wider team as well as challenging information in a confident and informed manner
  • Encompasses teamwork and a wider vision for both the individual and the company
  • Ability to work under pressure, going the extra mile at a required time
  • Analytical and problem solving skills;
  • Need and want to learn and develop skills
